The best-kept secrets of Manchester’s local restaurant scene have been revealed by their most loyal patrons.
Droves of readers have been sharing their favourite hidden gems after the MEN revealed how a tiny restaurant in Clayton was voted the city’s best restaurant.
Le Delicatezze di Bruno is Trip Advisor’s highest-rated restaurant, with other out-of-town – and often little-known – eateries dominating the rest of the top 10.
So we decided to delve deeper into the suburban foodie scene to bring you the ultimate guide to the best restaurants you’ve probably never heard of.
The Orange Tree tapas restaurant and grill in Denton, Tameside, was among the most popular suggestions.
Tim Burrows, one of five readers who nominated it, said: “Food is amazing, best tapas I have ever tasted.”
Other Tameside diners were also fond of Mediterranean food, with Italian eateries San Rocco, Puccini and Pizzeria Pinnochio all winning rave reviews.
Nominating Puccini, customer Trish, from Droylsden, said: “The food is excellent, staff are so accommodating and thoughtful.
“The place itself is beautiful with stunning fixtures and fittings. And the price is very reasonable considering the surroundings.”
Fellow foodies in Oldham favoured similar cuisine, nominating San Rocco’s sister restaurant Ancora, in Chadderton, as well as Sul Lago in Failsworth.
Christina Royton, who voted for Ancora, said: “One word – amazing. As good if not better than Italian restaurants in town.”
Other European eateries nominated included Linguine in Sale, La Torre in Urmston and Kosmos in Fallowfield as well as Blacksticks in Monton, the Lime Tree in West Didsbury, Nutters in Norden, Rochdale, and the Launderette in Chorlton.
Craig Keatley, from Stretford, praised the “terrific” food at Delicious, adding: “Service is exceptional, it’s cheap and you can bring your own drink – fantastic.”
And confirming the popularity of the Tripadvisor top 10, there were also votes for Le Delicatezze di Bruno, Jollof Cafe in Gorton and No 4 Dine and Wine, Didsbury.”
